  •  1. He was born on 19th July 1961 in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. He grew up in Onitsha where he attended Christ the King College for his secondary education.

    2. Peter Obi is a graduate of philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and has a masters degree in public and private administration from the same university.

    3. Before venturing into politics, Peter Obi was a successful businessman. He started his business career at the age of 26 with the establishment of Next International Nigeria Ltd, an indirect distribution company established to import and distribute textile materials within and outside Nigeria.

    4. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Guardian Express Mortgage Bank Ltd, Guardian Express Bank Plc, Future View Securities, Paymaster Nigeria Ltd, Chams Nigeria Ltd, Data Corp Ltd and Card Centre Ltd.

    5. In 2003, Peter Obi contested and won the governorship election in Anambra State under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

    6. He served as the Governor of Anambra State for two consecutive terms from 2006 to 2014.

    7. During his tenure, he focused on improving the education sector, healthcare system, infrastructure development, and security in Anambra State.

    8. Under his leadership, Anambra State became the first state in Nigeria to attain the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in education, healthcare, and poverty reduction.

    9. He also introduced policies and programs that reduced the rate of unemployment in Anambra State.

    10. In 2018, Peter Obi was chosen as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.

    11. He is known for his frugal and transparent management of public funds. During his tenure as Governor of Anambra State, he was recognized for saving billions of naira in government funds and returning unused funds to the state treasury at the end of each fiscal year.

    12. He is a member of several international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Global Centre for Public Service Excellence, and the African Leadership Institute (AFLI).

    13. Peter Obi is also a philanthropist and has been recognized for his contributions to the development of education in Nigeria. He has received several awards for his educational initiatives, including the Nigerian National Order of Merit Award (NNOM).

    14. He is married to Margaret Brownson and they have two children together.

    15. Peter Obi is a devout Catholic and has been actively involved in church activities. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka Restoration Fund.
